Day
3
Day 3. Whew. Tired. Powering
through. Today yet again exceeded expectations. Started off in the Lumiere with
THE Abby Wombach and THEEE Ibtihaj Muhammad! They had an amazing conversation
about using their platforms as Olympic athletes to promote gender equality,
especially in the athletic world, and how being an athlete can build yourself
such a strong brand that you actually end up on the creation side of business
as in putting input on Nike shoes or something. I loved this idea and related
to their entire conversation as a female athlete, and felt like I had
discovered a potential career with athletics I had never thought of before.
Then I went to Captiv8’s future five influencers speech, where he basically
showed five YouTube videos I had already seen about some key YouTubers and how
they are all backing a cause while making videos as a career. He didn’t speak
on anything else, and was disappointing as it was such a waste of time. He also
really generalized, which many people do, the millennial generation as crazy
fan girls that will buy anything an influencer endorses, which is simply not
true. I wish he would have explained how or why these YouTubers are changing the
industry rather than just showing well-known videos and letting them speak for
him. Then I went to the NBC Olympic Storytelling talk with MORE famous athletes
Adam Rippon (WHO I GOT A PICTURE WITH AND IS SO NICE) and Mikaela Shiffrin (WHO
IS ALSO ADORABLE). They spoke on how they try to stay as genuine and honest as
possible in order to attract brands that will want to work with their real
personalities. I also loved hearing from NBCUniversal’s Linda Yaccarino. I had
no idea there was a job that works in advertising that literally pairs up athletes
with the right sponsors and now that is my ~dream job~. I also went to a pretty
dope pool party with Yessian music and met an astounding amount of people from
all over the world working in Hamberg, Germany, and now I think I should move
there? And pursue an NBC Olympic-handling job? But I also met someone who made
$4,000 a month making fake ID’s? So considering dropping out of UGA and just
pursuing entrepreneurship instead? Anyway, off to the award show. Had to blog
early since I was charging my phone anyway. Stay tuned for more to come
tomorrow!
good thanks.
