Commercial 1
The first
commercial I was interested in analyzing was Finish dish soap. For my first
commercial blog post I wanted to choose one I did not enjoy, and this one took
the cake for my least favorite of the day. Now, I understand the thinking in
the production. A catchy tune, overused sarcasm to relatable boring household
activities, diversity of gender, age, and race to hit multiple consumers, but
truly it annoyed me to no end. The song for this ad is so catchy it is
revolting. As a personal preference I tend to like ads that are simplistic and
bold in very subtle ways, and this ad is so in your face with the song and
forced sarcasm that it is unenjoyable and cringe-worthy. The production must
have included a choir and musical jingle writer, and definitely some green screen
effects to add distractions to the ad such as dish gloves expanding into a
giant balloon, as well as makeup to depict one young person aging as they do
their dishes. The creative aspect is understood and an excellent idea, but the
execution is done poorly. Without the jingle and with less loud distractions,
the ad would be better off. I think ads for trivial household items such as
cleaning supplies are starting to be so irrelevant and unwatched that brands
are trying to get anything memorable into their consumers’ brains, so they
choose the loudest and most distracting techniques, such as tunes and hyperboles,
to catch their consumers even for only a moment. I think it detracts from the
effectiveness since consumers who may remember the ad may be more inclined,
such as I am, to the more fancy and outgoing ads, and simply ignore it or be
annoyed by it.
okay thanks,
